It developed a general practice service in 2003, Te Whare Hauora, based at the trust 's main office in Kaitaia and established a second general practice, Mamaru Clinic, in 2005, located at Coopers Beach. The intention of the trust is to offer effective and accessible primary health care to the Far North community focusing in particular on the high needs of the Maori community. Wai Health has a multidisciplinary team of 106 full-time staff, including community health workers, well child nurses, public health specialists, dietician, doctors, practice nurses, diabetes nurse specialists, podiatrist, mental health workers, drug and alcohol counsellors, psychologist, ACC support workers.
The Trust also contracts dental, optometry and physiotherapy services. We hope this year to provide pharmacy services and midwifery clinics.
Wai Health is funded by Waitemata District Health Board and the Ministry of Health, with the exception of our ACC contract.
